Procedure:
Here are several phonics trees you can use in the classroom.
Step 1:
Have students practice the basic sounds. It's helpful to draw mouths on the board and demonstrate where the tongue and lips should be when make the sounds.
Step 2:
Practice the words on the sheet slowly, exaggerating the target sounds.
Step 3:
Say one word from each row two times. The students will circle the word they think you said. Students who get to the correct city win! Level Up: Try doing it a second time, but put a piece of paper in front of your mouth so they can't see your lip movements.
Optional:
I also included tongue twisters you can do if you have the time.
Notes:
These were designed for low level high schoolers, but I don't see why it couldn't work in junior high as well.
Ah. Good to know. I have many Asian students. Those two letters are difficult for Spanish speakers as well - at least when they are writing what they think they've heard.
wow, this is excellent! very well organized, and I especially like the pictures for the vocabulary at the bottom. thank you very much for the contribution!
I'm interested in this set of phonics. I, too, have used the tongue twisters. Great idea!
I have a question. Why do you mix the short vowel sounds with long - on the first page?
The focus of the first page is on B and V. Asian students have difficulty differentiating between the B and V sound.

Oh, phonics trees are great. I'd forgotten about this idea until I saw your post! Very nice indeed.
